The Society's affiliations are

  • associate member of the Sussex Wildlife Trust,
  • member of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England.

It aims to promote the preservation of

  • the amenities of the village and its surrounding area,
  • its heritage,
  • historic buildings and footpaths.

It also organises

  • expert speakers,
  • outings,
  • monthly guided walks,
  • seasonal newsletters.

Why not become a member of EHDPS?

If you have an interest in any or all of the following

  • local history, natural history
  • the environment, wildlife, farming

then we invite you to join the East Hoathly & District Preservation Society.

Your subscription will entitle you to

  1. attend half a dozen meetings a year to which we invite guest speakers (many of them acknowledged experts) to educate and entertain us
  2. receive 4 newsletters a year to include items of local and national interest
  3. take part in an annual field walk
  4. There is also

  5. an annual outing (extra charge) which has not yet been set for 2018. Details posted here when available or see the newsletter or listen to announcements at meetings
  6. an AGM and dinner (extra charge)

Recent Work

In the last few years we have:

1. refurbished a local roadside pond and hedgerows (a prize-winning effort)
2. undertaken a major project to map the Parish under a habitat classification survey
3. listed bird species sighted in the Parish

In 2006 we were awarded a grant from The Lottery Heritage Initiative for a project entitled: The History of East Hoathly and Surrounding Villages in the Sussex Low Weald.
